Using Global Sound Switches

A vastly underused tool in LBP2 is the global sound modifier. This tool changes your environmental sound settings when activated. This tool is the key between making your level a generic background music + character level into a much more in depth and believable level, and it barely takes any effort.

First, you'll need one of these switches in each of the rooms of your level. If you have big rooms or just big open areas, stick on of these at each entrance/exit to the area. Essentially you want to be able to change sound settings whenever the player changes rooms.

The next step takes a bit of real world knowledge of how sound works, but here's your basic ideas.

If your room is made mostly of sponge or styrofoam, use the under water setting to get the natural sound dampening effect of soft surfaces.

If your level has a lot of wood or cardboard, you'll want to increase the sliders more than normal, wood has some decent dampening, though not nearly as much as sponge or styrofoam.

Next, look at how big your room is. Luckily the various effects of the sound have names that make sense. If your loom is very long and short, use the Hallway reverb, if its a big open area, use concert hall, and so on.

Next, look at the potency of your room compared to its reverb effect. If you have a hallway and your using the hallway effect, how long is your hallway? The longer it is, the stronger your reverb will be.

Finally lies your choice for music. Do you want your music to be effected by the reverb? Sound effects and speaking are within the level, so you want them to be effected, however the music isn't actually physically in the level so you may not want it to be affected. It's really personal choice.

Q. What does the Magic Mouth Enable Ducker tweak do?

This tweak is used for Voice Type :Gibberish or Voice Type :Recorded. The default setting is Yes. A duck icon is then displayed.

This isn't covered in the in-game tutorials, or in the game's instruction booklet.

A. The ducker reduces the sound of music and other sound objects when the magic mouth activates so that you can hear the recording in the magic mouth when played.

Looking for a great out of game sound FX, or a varyation of what is offered now by MM. Check out two pages worth viewing Freesoundproject and Soundsnap

Hope this tutorial helps you guys make your levels all the more awesome!
